First Image Released from the Indonesian Remake of Majid Majidi’s Children of Heaven
According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Indonesian company MD Pictures has released the first image from the remake of Children of Heaven, originally directed by Majid Majidi. The new film is directed by Hanung Bramantyo and stars Jared Ali and Humaira Zahra in the roles of Ali and Zahra. The image was unveiled at an event titled Children of Heaven: The Art of Cinematic Adaptation at the JAFF Market (Indonesian Film Market).
Majidi’s Children of Heaven premiered in 1997 and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Amir Farrokh Hashemian and Bahare Seddiqi played the roles of Ali and Zahra in the original.
The story follows a nine-year-old boy named Ali who loses his sister’s shoes. Knowing that their parents cannot afford to buy a new pair, he gives her his own shoes and takes them back from her every afternoon — until he wins a pair of shoes at school.
Majidi’s film won numerous awards, including the Crystal Simorgh for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing at the Fajr Film Festival.
